I first saw a bottle tower near Alto Pass, IL. It was built by Dan Johnson, a local artist. His bottles were laid out
horizontally but with the necks pointing outward and slightly tilted downward so rain wouldn't stay in them. Good thing about
his was, the wind would make the tower sing. I think I may put a row or two facing out up higher.
The tower is about completely flat around the top at present. It's at the level of the top of the archway in
the top foto.
There are currently nine steps in the circular stairway. This summer didn't afford many days during which
I could work on it. I'm hoping to do a lot more next summer. Linda and I were just talking the other day about
the fact that we're going to try to get down there frequently next summer and commit ourselves to getting it at least another
three feet high.
I finally figured out how to make a "scaffolding system" that will allow me to work at this level and higher without
having to spend a buncha dollars. I'm using a system that was used in the "olden days"... bales of straw. And
at $3 a bale, it's very affordable and quite portable. I had three of them this summer. Next summer I'm going
to need at least five.
